At the Geneva International Motor Show 2018, Goodyear offered an early glimpse of their prototype EfficientGrip Performance with electric Drive Technology.
This new tyre is Goodyear's first offering to the growing Electric Vehicles (EVs) segment of the market and is expected to be available sometime in 2019.
Once Electric Vehicles started to become commonplace on the roads in Europe, it became apparent that standard tyres were not meeting the different demands placed on them by these new vehicles.
Tests have revealed that instant torque produced by the electric motors combined with the increased weight of Electric Vehicles from the battery packs, can cause standard tyres to wear out up to 30% faster.
As a result of these findings, premium tyre manufacturers such as Goodyear, have been developing and testing tyres to meet these changing demands, while also combating the almost silent running of electric vehicles by designing tyres that are extremely quiet.
Goodyear's EfficientGrip Performance with electric Drive Technology is the latest tyre to be developed for use specifically on Electric Vehicles. As one of the first to market Goodyear will no doubt be hoping to gain popularity against the offering previously launched by other premium manufacturer's, such as the MICHELIN Energy E-V and the Continental Conti eContact.
